Following his graduation from Lampeter University in 1993, Daniel joined Clegg Gifford & Co Ltd as a placing broker before moving to G.E Lloyd-Roberts (syndicate 55) where he worked as an underwriter on the UK liability account. In 1997 Dan joined the Cox Nuclear Syndicate (syndicate 1176) where he was nuclear underwriter, also working on the power generation portfolio. Dan joined Catlin in 2002 as a class underwriter.

Rob began his insurance career in 1991 as a policy wording technician with Aegon Group in London. He was appointed London market professional liability underwriter in 1996. He subsequently served as a professional liability underwriter with Independent Insurance Company Limited, The Underwriting Insurance Company Limited and with W.R. Berkley Insurance in London. He joined Catlin in 2004 as a class underwriter for UK professional liability business and was promoted to senior class underwriter in January 2010.

Daniel Curran graduated from Kent University in Canterbury with a BA (Hons) in Economics and History. He began his insurance career in January 1996 when he joined Wellington Underwriting Agencies as an assistant analyst before joining SBW Insurance Research Ltd (formerly part of the Amlin Group) as an insurance analyst. Dan joined CUAL in 2000 as an assistant underwriter on the Healthcare and Professional Liability account and was promoted to class cnderwriter in 2003. In 2006 he assumed overall responsibility for the Healthcare account.

Dan was promoted to senior class underwriter in January 2010.

William graduated from Texas A&M University with an honours degree in Business (Finance). He joined Bain Dawes (London) in 1986 working as a broker in aviation, war and political risks.

Following a spell as a director at Miller Insurance Group, he joined Aon in 1999 to work in the BankAssure team, specialising in consulting and placing contingent insurances in support of ‘asset backed finance’ deals, predominantly for marine, offshore energy and aviation assets.

In 2003 William moved across to Aon Crisis Management where he headed up the stand-alone terrorism team. He joined Catlin in August 2007 as Deputy Business Group Leader for War and Political Risks.

Following his graduation from Exeter University, Roy joined syndicate 1027, MF Newton & Others, in 1994 as the underwriting assistant for the treaty account. In 1998 MF Newton & Others became part of the Cox syndicate 1208 where Roy was made an underwriter of the property treaty account. Roy joined Catlin in February 2002 as a property reinsurance class underwriter. He was appointed deputy business group leader for the Reinsurance Business Group in 2007.

Howard joined the A J Whittall Syndicate at Lloyd’s in August 1972. He worked on most areas of the Marine account and also assisted the incidental Non-Marine underwriter over the next 10 years before being appointed cargo class underwriter in December 1983. Howard became joint deputy underwriter of the Syndicate in 1988 and, upon the merger with H R Dumas Syndicate in 1991, remained deputy underwriter and cargo and specie class underwriter of the merged Syndicates.

Following the creation of Syndicate 2020 Howard remained cargo and specie underwriter. He is also a member of the Marine Committee of the Insurance Institute of London and was a member of the Advanced Study Group of the CII (No.240).

He joined Catlin in December 2006 following the acquisition of Wellington Underwriting plc.

Richard began his Lloyd's career as a cargo and specie underwriting assistant at CHF Ford and Others in February 1989. In 1993 Richard followed a team to PB Coffey and others. Following the purchase of the syndicate by Angerstein and the subsequent merger with Murray Lawrence, he was appointed cargo underwriter for Amlin in 2000.

Richard joined Catlin in March 2008.

Stephen began his insurance career in 1986 in the marine underwriting agency of the Prudential and Pearl. In 1987 he joined the marine underwriting team of Lloyd’s marine syndicate 855. In 1993 Stephen moved to the Chandler syndicate 483 as assistant underwriter for upstream and downstream energy business. Following the acquisition by ACE and subsequent merger of syndicates, Stephen transferred to Syndicate 2488 as an energy underwriter. In 1999 he joined Newmarket Underwriting as assistant underwriter for marine and energy. Stephen joined CUAL in 2001 as a class underwriter for the energy account.

Paul graduated in 1993 with a master’s degree in civil engineering, design and management from Cardiff University. He began his insurance career with Gan, after which he joined Willis Corroon Construction Risks Limited in 1995. He joined the construction team of JLT Risk Solutions at the end on 1999 to develop non-traditional insurance solutions to sit alongside traditional coverages for contractors and employers. He was promoted to partner in April 2002. Paul joined Catlin in June 2004 as the class underwriter for the newly established Construction & Engineering account. He is a graduate member of both the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers.

After graduating from St. Catharine's College, Cambridge, in 1983, Mike began his insurance career at Jardine Thompson Graham as a graduate trainee. Mike joined Octavian Syndicate Management as a syndicate statistician in 1990.

In 1994 he was appointed senior analyst for the newly created Lloyd's corporate capital provider, LIMIT plc. During this period, Mike gained his in-depth knowledge of the space industry and associated insurance market, as well as earning an MSc in Astrophysics.

Mike commenced underwriting a space insurance account in 1999 for D E Hope & Others, syndicate 1009. He obtained his PhD in 2001. Mike joined Catlin in 2002 as class underwriter for the satellite account.

Chris began his insurance career in 1980 at Sedgwick Group, first as a claims broker and then as a broker handing international accounts. He moved to Aegon Group in 1994 as a professional indemnity underwriter and joined Independent Insurance Company in London in 1994 when it acquired Aegon’s professional indemnity business.

He joined The Underwriter Insurance Company Limited in 1999 as professional indemnity underwriting manager. He joined Catlin in December 2003 as a class underwriter for UK professional indemnity and other PI business. He was appointed deputy leader of the UK Business Group in 2007.

Niall began his career in 1979 as a non-marine claims broker with Lowndes Lambert. In 1980 he joined D E Harman & Others, syndicate 584, as an assistant underwriter and in 1984 he became deputy underwriter for the bloodstock/livestock account.

In 1987 he joined M F Newton & Others, syndicate 1027, as the bloodstock underwriter. When the syndicate became part of the Cox Insurance Plc he also became responsible for the Non-Marine Binding Authority account.

Niall joined Catlin in November 2000 as class underwriter for the bloodstock and livestock account and to assist in the development of the short tail binding authorities.

Gary began his insurance career in 1982 as a claims broker. He joined a Lloyd's syndicate in 1988, progressing to claims manager before joining syndicate 179 in 1992 as an assistant underwriter. Syndicate 179 was merged with Catlin syndicates 1003 and 2003 for the 1996 year of account. In July 1998 Gary assumed responsibility for short tail binding authority business.

Colin began his insurance career in 1986 with the UK/international property team of Lloyd's syndicate 322, R D Robertson and Others. He became responsible for the syndicate's UK/Eire account in 1995. Following the syndicate's acquisition by Ace Limited in 1996, he transferred to Ace syndicate 2488 as UK/Eire property underwriter.

In 2001 Colin became responsible for Ace Underwriting Services Limited, the service company for the syndicate. He was appointed commercial insurance manager (UK & Eire) for Ace Europe in 2002. Colin joined Catlin in September 2003.

Following the completion of his undergraduate degree in economics and politics Richard began his insurance career at the British Aviation Insurance Group in 1998 as an analyst in the reinsurance and actuarial team. During this period Richard was involved in the pricing and development of both reinsurance and direct pricing models.

In 2000 BAIG acquired the AAU in the United States and rebranded itself as Global Aerospace Underwriting Managers. In 2003 Richard transferred to the Airline team as an assistant underwriter and over the next 2 years he completed his MSc in Risk Management and Insurance from Cass Business School. In 2006 he was promoted to Underwriter and completed his ACII.

In 2007 Richard was hired by C.V. Starr & Company as the airline practice leader in London.

Richard joined Catlin in August 2009.

Luis began his insurance career in 1989 when he joined a local Venezuelan consultancy firm as a risk engineer while studying his engineering qualifications. After completing his Mechanical Engineering degree Luis moved the UK where he joined the international risk engineering team at Industrial Risk Insurers (IRI) in 1993. He also enrolled on an MSc Risk and Safety Management course at Bournemouth University.

In 1998 Luis joined the Zurich Global Energy London office as Managing Director – Latin America which quickly evolved into a worldwide Onshore Property Senior Underwriter role.

Luis became a founding member of Allied World Assurance Company Ltd where he was responsible for the international energy marketing and underwriting department in London. He also spent some time as Deputy Head of the Onshore Energy underwriting team at Aegis London before joining Catlin’s Onshore Energy team as a senior class underwriter in 2009.

After graduating from Leicester University, Robert began his career in Lloyd's at G.E. Lloyd-Roberts and Others (Syndicate 55) as an underwriting assistant on the personal accident account. During the course of seven years, Robert assumed an increasing amount of underwriting authority and became recognised as a leader in the class. Robert joined CUAL in 1999 as class underwriter for the personal accident account. He began underwriting the contingency account for CUAL in 2003.

Mark began his insurance career at the British Aviation Insurance Company in 1984 as a reinsurance and policy wording technician. In 1989 he was promoted to the underwriting room as an underwriting assistant.

In 1990 after several aviation companies merged to form the British Aviation Insurance Group (BAIG), Mark transferred to the Airline and Space team. A year later he qualified as ACII.

In 2000 BAIG acquired the AAU in the United States and rebranded itself as Global Aerospace Underwriting Managers. Mark later moved to the Aerospace section, specialising in product and airport risks. In 2005 he was promoted to Underwriter.

Mark's employment with Global Aerospace spanned 25 years before he left to join Catlin in August 2009.

Nic started his insurance career more than 20 years ago in the non marine reinsurance claims department of Leslie & Godwin as a claims broker. He moved to Syndicate 780, B.F. Caudle Holdings, as a non marine underwriting assistant. In 1989 Nic accepted a position with aviation insurance manager Transglobe Underwriting Management in Guernsey and was involved with all aspects of aviation insurance. He then joined Ortac Underwriting Management, a general aviation specialist underwriting vehicle sponsored by Gerling Konzern in Germany. He joined Catlin in July 2005 as a class underwriter for the general aviation account in Guernsey.

Nic is a member of the General Aviation study group of the International Union of Aviation Insurers.

Mark began his insurance career in 1984 with Frankona Re UK, based in London.

In 1989 Mark joined Eagle Star Re on the International Property Treaty account and was the Property Treaty Underwriter at HartRe (The Hartford) from 1998.

After a brief spell in Lloyd’s with Cox Treaty, Mark relocated to Bermuda in 2002 to join Montpelier Re and served as Senior Vice President and Chief International Underwriter.

Prior to joining Catlin, Mark had been Executive Director for Willis Re on the Japan and Australia team, based in London.

Mark joined Catlin in October 2007 and underwrites the International Property Treaty Account. In January 2010 he was promoted to senior class underwriter.

Stuart graduated from Plymouth University with a BSc (Hons) in Politics. He joined Independence Insurance Company Limited in 1998 as an underwriting assistant on the Liability Team.

In 2001 he joined Generali for a year writing Liability and some K&R before moving to AIG in 2002. Joining the Crisis Management Team as an underwriter, specialising in K&R, Product Recall and Terrorism. He joined Catlin in 2006 as an assistant underwriter for the newly formed Crisis Management Division.

Tracy started her professional indemnity underwriting career at SunAlliance in 1980, initially as an underwriter’s assistant and progressing to senior underwriter, managing a team of junior staff. After 10 years she joined Sedgwick Professional Services Limited as an assistant director and broker. Tracy returned to underwriting in 1996 for Chubb Insurance Company of Europe, where she remained for eight years and was professional indemnity underwriting manager for the UK and Ireland. She joined Catlin in June 2004.

Jodie graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a BSC (Hons) in Business Systems Modelling. In the same year she started her insurance career at Catlin assisting Caroline Alliss and Tony Lovett on outwards reinsurance purchasing as well as assisting on the Marine and Aviation account. In 2004 she moved to the Marine and Aviation reinsurance account on a full time basis. Jodie received her ACII in 2006 and was promoted to assistant underwriter and then to class underwriter in January 2010.

Sam graduated from University of Bristol in 2005 with a Masters in Civil Engineering. He joined the Property Treaty team of Wellington Syndicate 2020 shortly after graduating.

Being on the graduate scheme Sam spent time with teams writing many different classes of business, including Cargo, Hull, Marine Reinsurance and Casualty before returning to the Property Treaty team.

In December 2006 he moved across to Catlin following its merger with Wellington and in 2007 he attended the Benfield Phase II Reinsurance School in Minneapolis.

Sam was promoted to Assistant Underwriter in 2009.

Ian graduated in 1995 from the University of Manchester with a BA (Hons) in Geography. He then joined Independent Insurance’s graduate trainee programme in 1997 where he held a variety of positions before joining the London market team as a Construction underwriter. In 2001 he joined R&SA’s head office underwriting team where he helped manage the property and packages account, focusing on portfolio management and pricing strategies.

In 2004 he joined AIG as a project manager before moving into the Crisis Management team in 2005 as a senior underwriter, specialising in product recall and kidnap for ransom.

Ian joined Catlin in 2008 as class underwriter within the Crisis Management team.

Robin began his insurance career in March 1988 when he joined Lloyd’s syndicates managed by Peter Pepper Underwriting Agencies Limited, first as a claims assistant, then as an underwriter on the marine accounts.

In September 1999, he joined Goshawk Syndicate 102 as an underwriter writing with satellite, energy and marine liability business. He joined Catlin in London in January 2004 as a class underwriter on the satellite account. Robin relocated to the Sydney office in 2006.

Robin is an elected member of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Having graduated from the University of London in 1997, Paul joined Royal & SunAlliance as a trainee underwriter dealing with UK liability and property business.

Following a few underwriting positions in Lloyd's, Paul started underwriting US primary and excess liability at Lexington Insurance Company / AIG Excess Casualty North America in 2002. Since 2004, he was Assistant Vice President - Excess Casualty at Liberty International Underwriters (part of the Liberty Mutual group) where he was responsible for underwriting a multinational liability portfolio including North American domiciled risks.

Paul joined Catlin in December 2007 as a Class Underwriter.

Merle Brown graduated from Manchester University in 1999 with a BA Econ (Hons). After graduating she worked at ERC Frankona as underwriting assistant for the medical malpractice team looking at both international and U.S hospital liability. In 2002 she joined Aon Healthcare Plus broking team as an account handler. After a year, she returned to underwriting as underwriting assistant for the healthcare team at Beazley and in 2004 was promoted to Assistant Underwriter. She joined Catlin in May 2007 as a class underwriter.

David began his insurance career in 1987 when he joined Greig Fester Ltd. He held various positions until his departure in 1998 when he moved to their Latin-American and Caribbean department broking Kidnap and Ransom (K & R) direct insurance as well as facultative reinsurance for Personal Accident, Property, Terrorism, Product Recall, FI and Contingency lines of business. Later that year he joined Sedgwick as a broker in their Speciality Lines division placing K & R, product recall, personal accident and contingency classes.

In 2000 he moved to ACE Europe where he was a senior underwriter in their Crisis Management division underwriting product recall, K & R and terrorism risks. In 2001 ACE Europe stopped writing these classes and after a brief spell at ACE Global Markets writing UK terrorism David moved to Marsh in 2001 as vice president of their London Product Recall team.

He joined CUAL in June 2006 as a class underwriter of a new Crisis Management team writing Product Recall and K & R.

After graduating from Brasenose College, Oxford, in 1996, Christophe began his insurance career with Willis as a surety broker. He joined Cox Insurance in 1998 as a graduate trainee and moved in 1999 to the treaty account, assisting the underwriter of the international portfolio. Christophe joined Catlin in September 2002 as an underwriting assistant for the property reinsurance class and was appointed a class underwriter in July 2003. He relocated to Bermuda in 2006.

Paul graduated from Nottingham University in the summer of 2003 having studied Biochemistry and Biological Chemistry. He joined Catlin Aviation team straight from university. Between the summer of 2003 and May 2006 he was worked in the London office focusing mainly on the Airlines and Large products section of the account. In May 2006 he moved within the team to the Guernsey office where he became an assistant underwriter working on the Commercial General Aviation and smaller products section of the account. Paul progressed to class underwriter in 2008.

Nigel graduated from Kingston University in 1992 with an Honours degree in Estate Management. From there he began his insurance career with AXA Corporate Solutions (formerly Guardian Royal Exchange) underwriting construction business. In 2002 he joined Zurich Global Corporate developing the construction account, focusing on UK and international construction risks, latterly in the position of UK Team Leader. In May 2007 Nigel joined Catlin as a class underwriter in the Construction and Engineering team.

Michael graduated from Oxford University with a Masters of Physics (MPhys) degree. He joined Catlin in 2007 as the Property Business Group Actuary. In 2009 he was made a class underwriter working in the Direct & Facultative team for US & Worldwide property business.

Prior to joining Catlin he was an Associate at an actuarial consultancy where he specialised in Lloyd's of London syndicate reserving, medical negligence & reinsurance pricing. He is a qualified Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.

Paul joined Wellington in August 2001 having spent 4 years as Group Credit Controller for a large international advertising agency.

After joining Wellington to perform a similar role within Syndicate 2020, Paul moved to the Accident & Health team to undertake the role of underwriting assistant. In 2006 he stepped up to an assistant underwriter specialising in General PA business. Paul transferred to Catlin when it acquired Wellington in December 2006. He was promoted to class underwriter in January 2009.

Tony Dent started his insurance career as a claims broker for HSBC Insurance Brokers in March 2001 where he stayed until moving into the placing section as a Placing Broker for the Auto Physical Damage section in June 2003.

Tony was part of a 26 person group that left HSBC to join Tyser in November 2003 to establish the Tyser North American Department within which he was part of a 2 man team responsible for all aspects of Auto Physical Damage coverage utilizing lineslips, binding authorities and facultative placements.

He joined Catlin in December 2008 as an assistant underwriter in the Non-Marine Binding Authority section.

Angela started in the insurance industry in 1985. She joined Aircrew Underwriting Agencies in 1988 specialising in aircrew loss of licence and personal accident before joining Scottish Re in 2001. Her wide experience of the management of all facets of this specialised class ultimately led to her appointment as underwriter with additional responsibility for the Middle Eastern Group Life portfolio. Angela joined Catlin’s Accident and Health team in January 2008 as class underwriter.

Katie graduated from the University of Reading with a Bachelor of Science in Geography in 2001 and after a gap year, in 2002 Katie began her insurance career at Trenwick Ltd in the compliance team. In 2003 she moved to Atrium Underwriting Limited, Syndicate 609, as an assistant underwriter in the Aviation Team, underwriting a full portfolio of aviation business with a focus on Rotor Wing accounts. In 2008 Katie moved to Australia where she worked at QBE Aviation as the underwriter for the New Zealand/ Pacific book. Katie joined Catlin in April 2009 as an aviation underwriter.

Julian began his career at broker Stewart Wrightson in London in 1983. He moved into underwriting in 1986 with AIG Europe where he remained for eight years before moving to CIGNA (now Ace) in London in 1994 as one of the founding underwriters of that company's D&O department. He was appointed the UK D&O manager in 1997 and regional D&O manager in 2003. Julian joined Catlin in June 2004 as a class underwriter for UK D&O and Pension Trustees Liability.

Neil began his insurance career in 1988 when he joined Bain Dawes Insurance Brokers Ltd, leaving the brokers now called AON in 1994 where he was the Key Account Manager for their Programs and Affinity Division, which specialised in providing Personal Lines programs to organisations such as the NHS, Toyota, Age Concern.

In 1994 Neil joined the Personal Lines Division of AIG Europe (UK) Ltd as business development manager working in their Croydon office, before moving to the Northampton office in 1996. In 1998 Neil moved to the Commercial Lines Division in the office London before joining the Crisis Management Division in 1999, specialising in underwriting Product Recall, Kidnap & Ransom, and Property Terrorism. Neil was appointed to the position of UK Regional Manager, Vice President of Crisis Management Division in 2002.

Neil joined Catlin in 2006 as class underwriter in the Crisis Management team.

Navaid joined Catlin in March 2008 as a senior class underwriter from Zurich Financial Solutions, where he led their political and trade credit risk team in London. Prior to Zurich, Navaid was an associate director at Standard & Poor's, where he worked as a sovereign credit credit analyst for three years. Navaid joined Standard & Poor's after having finished his MBA and Master's in International Relations at Yale. Navaid also holds a Master's of Economics from the University of Western Ontario.

Steven began his insurance career in the Claims team at Liberty Syndicates (Syndicates 190 and 282) in 2002.

Towards the end of 2003 Steven opted to join the Claims team at Wellington (Syndicate 2020) in a role which involved supporting a range of direct and reinsurance classes of business. Following the merger between Wellington and Catlin in 2006, Steven joined the Energy Claims team as a claims adjuster in a role he held for 15 months handling both upstream and downstream claims from first advice to final settlement.

In June 2008 Steven joined the Energy underwriting team and was promoted to assistant underwriter in January 2010.

Following practical training in the bloodstock world Robert began his insurance career in 1984 in the bloodstock department of Ropner Insurance Brokers, later becoming Assistant Director.

In 1989 he joined Murray Lawrence syndicate 156 as deputy underwriter for bloodstock and aquaculture risks globally. In 1992 Robert moved to an Underwriting Agency, Tender Exchange Rate Indemnity as an underwriter. The Agency specialised in Tender to Contract exchange rate insurance for capital goods exporting companies.

Following the purchase of the Agency by NCM in 2000 he joined Willis as Divisional Director in their bloodstock division with particular responsibility for European Accounts, being promoted to Executive Director in 2004.

Robert joined Catlin in 2007 as a class underwriter in aquaculture.

After graduating from University of Limerick in 1996, Lavinia joined National Re/General Re as a graduate trainee on the Global Casualty Facultative Programme. During her sever-years with the company, she worked in a variety of roles in the UK and Ireland writing excess global faculative business. She also held various account leader roles including responsibility for the Irish domestic market.

Lavinia joined Allied World Assurance Company in December 2003 as a Senior Liability Underwriter. In 2006 she was appointed Assistant Vice President with responsibility for the development and growth of Allied World's UK excess book of medium to large European and multinational accounts. She joined Catlin as Underwriter in November 2007.

After graduating from DePauw University in 1997, Matt joined Allstate Insurance Company and began training to become an actuary while working in their non-standard auto line of business. In 2001 Matt joined Hannover Re Advanced Solutions in Dublin, Ireland, and began focusing on pricing structured risk contracts. Matt became a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) in May 2003 and joined Catlin Bermuda in late 2003. While at Catlin Matt has worked on Casualty pricing, reserving and capital modelling. Currently, Matt is underwriting US Property Treaty and US Property Quota Share reinsurance.

Alex graduated from York University with a BA in Economics. He joined Terra Nova Insurance Company Limited in 1985 as an underwriting assistant handling property reinsurance accounts. In 1988 he transferred to the Casualty and Special Risks unit which focused on writing treaty medical malpractice, errors and omissions and general liability risks, mainly emanating from the US. In 1991 he became the unit’s deputy underwriter in charge of the lawyers E&O and pecuniary accounts and became head of the unit in 1992. He joined Catlin in 2003 as class underwriter for the casualty reinsurance portfolio in London.

Stephen started his insurance career with the Heath Group in 1983 as a cargo technician and was promoted to join the broking team in 1984. In 1995 he joined Energex International Insurance Brokers as a marine broker. During his time in the insurance market Stephen has travelled extensively throughout America, the Far East, Europe and Scandinavia and has been responsible for placing some of the largest cargo risks shown to the London Market. Stephen joined Catlin in November 2001 to underwrite the cargo account.

Simon’s underwriting career started in 1989 with Black Horse Financial Services where he worked as an underwriter for the Life and Health business. From 1997 to 2002, he worked as an underwriter with the AIG Life group risk team and in 1999 assumed responsibility for the Medical Underwriting unit specialising in Group Life, Critical Illness and Income Protection.

In 2002 Simon commenced his reinsurance career joining GE Insurance Solutions. He worked within the Life and Health underwriting team and at the start of 2006 Simon was promoted to the Client Management team. Simon joined Swiss Re following the acquisition of GE Insurance Solutions in 2006. He worked as a Client Manager which involved providing strategic support and insight into market and product developments, alternative distribution channels, communicating research and sharing new ideas. At the end of 2008 Simon was promoted to develop the middle office of Swiss Re’s composite business and prior to joining Catlin held the position of Head of Business Services UK.

In 2002, he moved to London to work in various positions for primarily Sumitomo Mitsui and Allianz Cornhill. Cameron returned to Australia in 2003, and took up a position with Chubb Insurance as an Underwriting Technical Assistant for the casualty and property teams. Ken has over 40 years experience in the insurance industry. During this time he has occupied a number of senior positions within both the Lloyd’s and Company markets. He was the active underwriter for Syndicate 209 and in recent years has undertaken the role of specie underwriter with a number of syndicates latterly Wellington.

Ken has held a number of directorships within the Lloyd’s community. He was a member of the Chartered Insurance Institutes Advanced Study Group 240 (Marine Insurance in the C.I.S) and is an elected member of the Joint Cargo Committee (JCC) and of the JCC Working Party on Airport Security and on the Metals Working Party.

Clive began his career in energy and liability insurance as an assistant underwriter in 1984 on syndicate 1009. He progressed to class underwriter in 1986 and by 1995 was appointed deputy of the syndicate, under David Hope.

In 2002 he joined Catlin’s Underwriting Board, moving in 2003 to a position within underwriting operations then in 2005 became a director of Group Operations. In October 2007 he returned to underwrite for the Energy Business Group.

Will Martin began his career in 1990 in the Marine department of the Methuen Underwriting Agency. Following the appointment of Robin Todd as active underwriter in 1995, Will transferred to the energy department to assist in the writing of Upstream and Downstream Energy business.

Between 1996 & 1998 the syndicate went through a period of acquisition by ACE Global Markets & the merger of the Tarquin underwriting agency. In 1999 Will joined Atrium Underwriting to focus solely on underwriting Upstream Energy business. Will joined Catlin in 2003 to underwrite upstream and Downstream business and became a class underwriter in 2006.

Andrew’s underwriting career started in 1980 with Sun Alliance’s UK Personal Accident team. From 1985-1987, he was Deputy Underwiter at Accident and Health Reinsurance consultants Ltd, a specialist agency working primarily in North American specific and aggregate excess medical benefits programmes. In 1987 he joined AFLAC’s UK operations specialising in UK payment protection and direct marketing. He later became Vice President, Underwriting for AFLAC’s UK life and general insurance companies.

In 1994, Andrew joined Aircrew Underwriting Agencies, a global specialist in aircrew loss of licence. He progressed to become Executive Director of AUA and oversaw AUA’s migration to Scottish Re in 2001. At Scottish Re, Andrew occupied a number of roles including Chief Underwriting Officer and ultimately Director of the Global Aviation business unit.

Andrew joined Catlin as part of the Accident and Health team in November 2007.

Having graduated from Loughborough University with a BEng in Product Design and Manufacture Engineering, James joined Aon in 2002 working for their High Net Worth and Fine Art division. He moved to Catlin in 2003 to work as an underwriting assistant on the Property Treaty account supporting the International and North American underwriters.

In 2005 he was seconded to CICL Bermuda for the summer to help integrate business processes and RMS modelling techniques on the property treaty account. James achieved his ACII designation in 2005 and was promoted to assistant underwriter in 2006 specialising on the North American account. He was then further promoted to class underwriter during the 2008 renewal season.

Rory graduated from Durham University with a BSc (Hons) in Geography. In 2002 he joined Catlin working on the General Liability account. His career at Catlin has so far seen him being seconded to Catlin Singapore for 2 months and then to Catlin Sydney for 2 months and 6 months respectively before returning to London. In 2006 he gained his ACII qualification and became assistant underwriter then progressed to class underwriter in December 2007.

Ciaran graduated from the University of Leeds in July 2003 with a BA Honours in European Studies with Law, before gaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from City University, London. He joined the Wellington Graduate Scheme in May 2006, prior to the syndicate’s acquisition by Catlin, and now works for the US Casualty Reinsurance team, writing Medical Malpractice, Professional Liability, Workers’ Compensation and General Liability Treaties.

Dominic began his career with National Westminster Insurance Services in London in1972, working within many different departments. In 1973 NWIS decentralised to Bristol where he began to specialise in Motor.

In 1978 Dominic joined Leadenhall Motor Policies Bristol Office to expand their Commercial account.

In 1981 he returned to London and joined Paladin Motor Policies a Deputy Fleet Manager. Following the mergers of two sister syndicates Anchor and R.B. Dominic became Motor Fleet Underwriter in 1994 of the renamed syndicate Wren Motor Policies. He was also involved with the purchase of the Motor Renewal books of both Gerling and Markel and managing the integration of that business into the migrated company of Brit Insurance.

Dominic joined Catlin in September 2007 as a class underwriter within the Motor team to help build a commercial motor portfolio which will compliment and support other classes of business written.

After a career in mathematics in Yugoslavia, he began his insurance career in Toronto as an actuarial trainee at Manulife Financial. In 1994 he joined Royal Insurance Company of Canada as a senior actuarial analyst, and he worked for Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company in a similar role from 1998 to 2000. Later that year he moved to Bermuda where he joined Centre Solutions (Bermuda) Limited as an assistant vice president and actuary. He joined Catlin Bermuda in May 2003. Misha is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

Richard graduated from Plymouth University in June 2000 with a BA Honours in Business Studies. He joined ACE Global Markets straight from University before accepting a full-time position at the D.P. Mann Syndicate (now Faraday) in January 2001.

Richard spent 5 years at Faraday on the Underwriting side until moving to Wellington to join a new US Casualty team, writing Medical Malpractice; Workmen’s Compensation and General Liability Treaties.

Carol Paiva began her insurance career with Beneficial American in 1977. In 1994 she was appointed vice president-underwriting of Sphere Drake Underwriting Management (Bermuda) Ltd. (later Odyssey Re), writing casualty treaty business specifically for risk retention groups, association captives and other alternative risk transfer entities, as well as workers compensation business. Carol moved to Chubb Atlantic Indemnity Ltd. in 2000 where she continued writing alternative risk transfer business in addition to proportional program business. She joined Catlin Bermuda in 2003 as casualty underwriter.

He has remained in the fine art/specie field, working for Leumi Insurance Services, Alexander Forbes and HSBC Insurance Brokers. He joined CUAL as a class underwriter in December 2002.

After completing a Bachelor of Business (Management) at the University of Western Sydney 2005, Emma commenced her insurance career at Catholic Church Insurances, working in the Sydney office as a Case Manager in the Workers' Compensation team. In 2008, Emma relocated to Auckland, New Zealand and spent six months working for AIG as a Travel Claims Examiner, before moving to the United Kingdom later that year. In August 2008, Emma took up a position at the Financial Ombudsman Service in London as an Insurance Adjudicator. In August 2009, Emma returned to Sydney and commened work with Catlin in October 2009.

Norm began his reinsurance career with Sphere Drake in 1981 in Melbourne as the Southern Region Property Underwriter. He then joined Southern Cross Underwriting in 1983 as Facultative Property Underwriter for Australasia and the Pacific Islands.

After 16 years there, Norm then took up the position as Southern Region Manager for Sydney Reinsurance, later QBE Reinsurance which began in 1999 until the closure of the Asia Pacific Operations for that company in 2003.

In 2004, Norm left Melbourne for Sydney and joined Swiss Reinsurance as Senior Property Underwriter, the job he left to join Catlin Australia in December 2005 as a Class Underwriter for Property.

Ian’s insurance career started in 1976 with the Equitable Life Assurance Society, covering a number of roles in the New Business area, including 4 years as a Life Underwriter.

In 1987 he joined the Victory Reinsurance Company, based in London in a business development/client relationship management role. In 1990 he transferred within the then NRG Victory Reinsurance Group to Singapore where he established the Life Branch as Principal Officer, creating the platform by which the Asian Life and Accident reinsurance activities of the group were taken forward from a local office. In 1994 the NRG Victory Life reinsurance portfolio was acquired by Employers Re.

In 1996, Ian accepted the role as Principal Officer in Singapore to establish a new office for the Lincoln National Reinsurance Companies (USA) to complement their existing operation in the Philippines. Following the successful establishment of the Singapore Office, he returned to the UK in 1999 to become Executive Vice President, Europe for Lincoln Re.

In 2001, he returned to the direct market as General Manager, Muscat Life Assurance Company, based in the Sultanate of Oman.

In 2002, he joined Scottish Re based in Windsor, UK, occupying a lead role in the underwriting of group life and accident risks emanating from the Middle East markets, as Client Development Manager. In 2007, the life reinsurance portfolio of Scottish Re was transferred to the Arab Insurance Group, based in Bahrain, where Ian occupied the role of Assistant Director – Life.

Ian joined Catlin in 2009.

Lucian started his insurance career as an underwriting assistant on Merrett Syndicate 264 in November 1992 having completed an MA in Modern History from Oxford. He transferred to Merrett 179 and from there worked as an assistant until its merger into Catlin Syndicates 1003 & 2003. Since 1997 he has worked within the short tail binding authority account with specific responsibility for the Canadian portfolio. He was appointed Class Underwriter in 2006.

After graduating as an Engineer from The University of Nottingham, Chris started his career at Lloyd's by joining Wellington as a graduate trainee in 1994. He subsequently transferred to Faraday Syndicate to participate in the formation of a new International Casualty Treaty team where he built up experience in many international markets as an assistant underwriter.

In 1999 Chris moved to GE Insurance Solutions as an Underwriter with responsibility for the regional casualty reinsurance portfolio, developing the motor, employers liability, public and products liability, and professional indemnity accounts. In 2006, he moved to Catlin as a Class Underwriter to start the International Casualty Treaty account, specialising in all non-dollar liability treaty classes.

After graduating from the University of Leeds with a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics with Finance, she joined Guy Carpenter in 2002 as a graduate trainee. She worked within the UK team, focusing on property and construction treaty business, as well as spending time with the Asia–Pacific team during the renewals of their Japanese business.

Ian joined BMS in 1987 where he worked on US Casualty Treaty claims. He joined Sphere Drake in 1991 as assistant US Casualty Treaty underwriter and became deputy underwriter in 1996. In 1999 when Odyssey Re acquired and ultimately merged Sphere Drake into the Odyssey owned Lloyd’s Syndicate, Newline Syndicate, Ian headed up their US Casualty Treaty book. His focus has been on Medical Malpractice, Professional Liability and other General Liability classes.

In 2001 he joined RK Carvill, a specialist independent reinsurance broker as a director heading up their London analytical team in conjunction with the companies London and US brokers. Ian joined Catlin in May 2006 as a class underwriter working on the US Casualty Treaty book.

Simon entered the insurance business in 1986 when he joined the composite marine syndicate managed by L G Cox & Co. He served as claims manager and joined the underwriting team in 1992, writing both short-tail commercial and marine hull business.

He joined Royal & SunAlliance as a hull underwriter in 2001 with responsibility for one of the largest accounts in the London market. Simon joined Catlin in July 2003 as a class underwriter specialising in hull accounts.

Richard Slater joined Catlin Bermuda in 2006 as a property underwriter. He had been vice president-international property reinsurance at Montpelier Re Holdings Ltd in Bermuda. He previously held property reinsurance underwriting positions at ACE Tempest Re in Bermuda and at Syndicates 2488 and 219 at Lloyd’s of London. He is a 1996 graduate of Exeter University in the UK with a BA degree in classics.

Ron began his career with Zurich Insurance in 1976. He moved to Willis in 1980 where held variety of technical roles, leading to multinational account management at divisional director Level.

In 1992 Ron joined Johnson and Higgins as an account director on multinational business working in the area of establishing Pan European Motor Fleet programmes. This connection led to a move to Crowe Insurance Group in 1997 where he became Head of Commercial Vehicle Underwriting.

From 2001 Ron worked for Brit Insurance Group where he had leading roles in both motor underwriting and operational management including business planning and acquisitions. He was appointed as Head of Commercial Fleet Underwriting at Brit in April 2007.

Ron joined the motor underwriting team at Catlin in September 2007.

Matthew started his insurance career with the Lloyd’s Claims Office (LCO) in 1993 before moving to work for Lloyd’s of London in the Aviation claims department first as a settlement clerk and then as a claims adjuster.

After travelling in 2000, Matthew resumed his career in insurance in 2003 with Xchanging before moving to Aon in 2004 as a broker in the Specie and Fine Art division. In October 2005 Matthew was given the opportunity to take up a position as an Account Executive with Aon Risks Services Australia running the Fine Art division on a national basis.

After 4 years working closely with clients and insurers, in 2009 Matthew took the step of joining Catlin Australia as an Assistant Underwriter in the Specie and Fine Art division.

Hala’s underwriting career started in 1994 with Bankers Assurance (Nasco Karaoglan Group) in Lebanon where she underwrote Life business.

In 1997 she assumed the management of the Life division and later the PA division where her role expanded to include business development and broker/client relationship management.

In 2001 Hala relocated to London where she completed a MSc in Insurance and Risk Management (Hons) at Cass Business School. She then joined Miller Insurance Services’ Accident & Health Reinsurance division where she transacted international A&H business.

Between 2005 and September 2009, Hala placed Life, Accident, Health and Travel business in her role as a broker within Jardine Lloyd Thompson. In October 2009, Hala joined Catlin’s Life, Accident & Health syndicate as Assistant Life underwriter.

Hala speaks fluent French and Arabic and has a good working knowledge of Spanish.

Chris graduated in 1993 from Massey University, New Zealand with a Bachelor degree in Business Studies. He joined Royal & SunAlliance in 2000 as a team leader in the Risk Managed division. A year later he switched to the Marine Department as a business analyst. In 2003 Chris transferred to the Hull Underwriting team and also developed the Aquaculture proposition, which won the International Initiative of the Year at the British Insurance Awards. Chris joined Catlin in 2006 as an assistant underwriter in the hull team and was promoted to class underwriter in 2009.

John Tremble began his insurance career with Turegum Insurance Company in 1983. In 1987 he joined syndicate 947 managed by Chartwell Managing Agents Limited, as an assistant underwriter. He was promoted to class underwriter for the non-marine facultative account in 1999 when syndicate 947 merged with syndicate 952, managed by Greenwich Managing Agency Limited. He joined Catlin in May 2003 as an underwriting assistant for non-marine binding authorities and was appointed a class underwriter in December 2003.

After graduating from Brighton University, Mark began his insurance career in 1994 in the reinsurance department in Catlin’s London office. During the course of six years as an underwriting assistant, Mark progressed within the reinsurance team and was promoted to class underwriter for catastrophe reinsurance for the 2001 underwriting year. In 2002 Mark relocated to Bermuda to become a class underwriter for Catlin Bermuda. Mark transferred back to London in September 2009.

Brad started his insurance career in 1981 with Union Insurance; since 1987 Brad has worked in the Reinsurance market holding underwriting positions in RECOA, New Re Geneva and GCR/Gen Re.

In 1997 he moved to Union Re as Branch Manager and in 1998 when Union Re merged into Swiss Re, he became the National Facultative manager. Before finishing at Swiss Re in 2007 Brad headed up their alternate risk solution and distribution area. Brad has a broad knowledge across most lines of business but more recently specialised in Medical Malpractice, Lawers PI, Motor and schemes.

After graduating from Bristol University in 2002 with a 1st Class Economics degree, Nick joined R K Carvill & Co as a US Treaty broker. He spent a year on secondment in the United States working for Arch Insurance as a D&O underwriter and joined Catlin in 2006 as a trainee actuary. He moved across to the General Liability team in 2007.

Graham started the insurance industry as a claims assistant in 1982, before joining D G Durham Insurance Brokers as a claims broker in 1985. In 1992 he joined Poland non-marine syndicate 109 at Lloyd’s as a claims adjuster for all North American classes, before joining syndicate 179 in a similar capacity in 1994, assuming responsibility for the binding authority claims. For the 1996 year of account, syndicate 179 was merged with Catlin syndicates 1003 and 2003. He was appointed an underwriting assistant at Catlin for the non-marine binding authority account in 2000 and was appointed a class underwriter in 2003.

Class Underwriter

Steven began his insurance career in 1989 at CE Heath (Aviation) Pty Limited, holding both underwriting and claims roles. After spending 3 years at Associated Marine Insurers (Agents) Pty Limited as an underwriter, he joined AIG where he spent the next 12 years in various underwriting and management roles including NSW General Manager, Queensland General Manager and Regional Vice President – Crisis Management / Asia Pacific. Steven joined Catlin in 2009 as a class underwriter.

Kate graduated in 2002 with a BA in Psychology and Human Resource Management. She started her insurance career at Western Provident Association where she worked as a medical claims assessor. Kate joined Catlin UK as a professional indemnity underwriting assistant in 2004 and has since progressed to assistant underwriter for the Professional Indemnity team.

Peter began his insurance career in 2000 with Marsh. After spending a year broking international property risks he moved to the power department. He spent 4 years broking power risks from around the world into the London and European market.

In 2005 he joined Catlin on the non-marine property account and began underwriting worldwide property. In 2006 he focused on underwriting mining, downstream energy and power generation for the non-marine property account. In 2007 he transferred to the energy account and was promoted to class underwriter where he currently writes the downstream energy and power generation book.

Deborah began her professional indemnity underwriting career at SunAlliance in the late 1980s and was promoted to deputy London underwriting manager in 1994. She joined Chubb Insurance Company of Europe in 1999 as senior underwriter of the London professional indemnity account, including UK/Eire referrals. In September 2004 Deborah joined Catlin as a class underwriter for UK professional indemnity business.

Darren commenced his Insurance career in 1995 with Catholic Church Insurance assisting the NSW property team. In 1997 he joined Sydney Reinsurance, later QBE Reinsurance, where he held several positions including Facultative Property Underwriter writing business in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia markets. He joined ACE Insurance in 2004 as NSW Property Underwriter prior to joining Catlin in early 2006 as Property Underwriter.

Charlotte graduated from Oxford Brookes University, completing a combined honours degree in History of Art and Accountancy & Finance. She also studied History of Art in Florence. She worked at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris as a secondee before joining Sedgwick Insurance Brokers (now Marsh) as a graduate trainee. She spent five years as a broker before with Marsh joining Catlin in 2001 as an underwriting assistant. She was appointed a Class Underwriter in 2006.

Emma began her insurance career in the Catastrophe & Risk XOL Treaty team at Lloyd’s syndicate Amlin Plc in 2001. During her time at Amlin she moved into the Direct & Facultative Property team where she spent two years as an Underwriting Assistant and Class Underwriter writing a book of international Property business in Lloyds.

In 2004 Emma moved to Australia where she joined ACE Insurance spending a short time in the Technical Lines department before becoming a Property Underwriter. Emma joined Catlin in May 2007.

Deborah graduated from Swansea University in 1992 and joined Euler Trade Indemnity, working as an export credit underwriter. After four years she moved to Nelson Hurst as a credit and political risk broker, but later moved back into underwriting as a senior underwriter at AIG Europe (UK) Ltd. From there she moved to Cox Insurance Holdings in 1999 to develop a newly established trade credit book, before joining Catlin in September 2001, taking responsibility for the trade credit account.

Adam graduated from Lancaster University in 2003 with a BBA (Hons) in Management. From university he joined Wellington Underwriting's Graduate Training Scheme during which time he attained his ACII. In 2006 he took up a permanent position in the Accident and Health team as an underwriting assistant. Adam transferred to Catlin's Accident and Health team following it's acquisition of Wellington in December 2006. Adam was promoted to assistant underwriter in 2009.
