Catlin Group Limited Announces Board Changes
9 December 2009
LONDON – Catlin Group Limited (‘CGL’: London Stock Exchange), the international specialty property/casualty insurer and reinsurer, announces two non-executive director changes.
Guy Beringer has been appointed as a non-executive director with effect from 8 December 2009. He will be subject to election by shareholders at the Company’s Annual General Meeting in 2010.
Guy Beringer served as senior partner of Allen & Overy, the international law firm, from 2000 until his retirement in 2008. As senior partner he chaired the firm’s Partnership Board and was responsible for strategic development. He joined Allen & Overy in 1978 and also served as managing partner of the corporate department. He is a non-executive director of Fleming Family & Partners Ltd and London Irish Holdings Limited and a non-executive board member of HM Court Service. He was appointed a Queen’s Counsel (honoris causa) in 2006 for his contributions to pro bono and legal services.
Catlin also announces that Michael Hepher, who has been a Catlin Group non-executive director and chairman of the Audit Committee since October 2003, will retire from the Board on 31 January 2009 due to the demands of his other commitments. He will be succeeded as chairman of the Audit Committee by Nicholas Lyons, who was first appointed as a non-executive director in August 2008 and elected by shareholders at the Annual General Meeting in 2009.
Sir Graham Hearne, chairman of Catlin Group Limited, said:
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Guy Beringer to the Catlin Board. Guy’s 30 years of experience at Allen & Overy, including eight years as senior partner, will greatly benefit the Group.
“I would also especially like to thank Michael Hepher for his service as a non-executive director of Catlin. Michael has made a significant contribution to the Group over the past six years, both as a director and as chairman of the Audit Committee. Michael helped to guide the Group through its flotation on the London Stock Exchange and its subsequent growth. We are sorry to lose him but understand the demands on his time necessitated by his other commitments. On behalf of the Board, I wish him the very best for the future.
“I also welcome Nicholas Lyons in his new role as chairman of the Audit Committee.”
