Centred in London and utilising a global team of underwriters, the Catlin Aerospace Group offers a comprehensive range of insurance products. Including a core team of fourteen at our London head office and at Lloyd’s, the division as a whole comprises over 30 staff.
Catlin is now positioned as a major London market leader in this class following the acquisition of Wellington in 2006. Aviation Business Group Leader
Alain Burguiere joined Catlin in 2007 from La Reunion Aerienne (LRA), the Paris-based aviation underwriting specialist where he had headed the underwriting team. He joined LRA in 1991 as an underwriter in the overseas department. He was promoted to senior underwriter in 1999
and appointed head of underwriting in 2001.
Deputy Business Group Leader/Senior Underwriter
After graduating from St. Catharine's College, Cambridge, in 1983, Mike began his insurance career at Jardine Thompson Graham as a graduate trainee. Mike joined Octavian Syndicate Management as a syndicate statistician in 1990.
In 1994 he was appointed senior analyst for the newly created Lloyd's corporate capital provider, LIMIT plc. During this period, Mike gained his in-depth knowledge of the space industry and associated insurance market, as well as earning an MSc in Astrophysics.
Mike commenced underwriting a space insurance account in 1999 for D E Hope & Others, syndicate 1009. He obtained his PhD in 2001. Mike joined Catlin in 2002 as class underwriter for the satellite account.
Senior Underwriter
Mark began his insurance career at the British Aviation Insurance Company in 1984 as a reinsurance and policy wording technician. In 1989 he was promoted to the underwriting room as an underwriting assistant.
In 1990 after several aviation companies merged to form the British Aviation Insurance Group (BAIG), Mark transferred to the Airline and Space team. A year later he qualified as ACII.
In 2000 BAIG acquired the AAU in the United States and rebranded itself as Global Aerospace Underwriting Managers. Mark later moved to the Aerospace section, specialising in product and airport risks. In 2005 he was promoted to Underwriter.
Mark's employment with Global Aerospace spanned 25 years before he left to join Catlin in August 2009.
Underwriting
Lisa attended the University of Reading where she studied Business and Economics. She has previously worked at Xchanging. Lisa joined Catlin in 2006 and was promoted to assistant underwriter in January 2010.
Lisa completed her ACII in September 2008.

Joe graduated from Bath in 2006 after studying Economics and Politics. He joined the Aviation team at Catlin in October 2006, and completed my ACII in September 2009.
Joe was promoted to underwriter in January 2010.

Paul graduated from the University of Sheffield with a degree in Economics.
He joined the Aviation team at Catlin in 2007 as an underwriting assistant.
Paul was promoted to assistant underwriter in January 2010.
Paul gained his ACII qualification in February 2010.
